Professional Development.
"Build your own pyramids, write your own hieroglyphs" -Kendrick Lamar
Within the next next year, I see myself having a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M Mays Business School in Management Information Systems and a certificate in Not-for-Profit Business. After college, I plan on going out into the workforce to gain experience and travel the world.
I picked Management Information Systems as a major because I have an interest in technology and how it can help a business lead successful projects to completion. This past summer I interned at Myers and Stauffer, LC. as a IT Audit Intern. The internship consisted of me performing as a team member for a HIPAA Compliance Audit and SSAE 16 Type II Audit. My internship was great learning experience because I had a mentor and supervisor who cared about my experience and encouraged me to ask questions and shadow their work. This summer taught me that I am extremely interested in working in the healthcare industry. To further my interest in the healthcare industry, I plan on either volunteering at a hospital or joining some type of healthcare organization at Texas A&M.
I also have an interest in nonprofits. For the past three going on four years, I have been involved with two nonprofits, the Texas A&M Wesley Foundation and the Texas A&M Cupcake Club. I have also spent Spring semester of 2015 volunteering at the AggieLand Pregnancy Outreach This year I have the opportunity to intern at Family Promise of Bryan-College Station, a nonprofit whose mission "is to help homeless children and their families achieve sustainable independence." My role will be to assist the director and serve as an ambassador for the program. I am looking forward to the internship because I will be able to get first hand experience of how a nonprofit works. In the future, I see myself either working or sitting on a board for a nonprofit.
In the next couple of years I see myself starting my career and living in a new city. I would hope the job I have challenges me everyday and gives me opportunities for growth and the chance to travel globally. In the next ten years, I see myself having an MBA and working for a major hospital in management. My end goal is to one day be a project manager at a hospital, sitting on a board for a nonprofit, and maybe even starting a business. When I retire I would love to teach at a community college and encourage students just as my professors encouraged me.
