I am super excited for CMIS Leadership Retreat this Monday! The CMIS Leadership Retreat is for the MIS students at Mays Business School. The retreat brings MIS students, professors, and company recruiters to get to know one another, has special topic sessions, and other fun activities, such as the Rope Challenges! I attended the retreat last year as an attendee, but this year I get to go as a mentor. I found the retreat to be super beneficial because I got to meet other MIS students, who would later be in my classes and/or group projects. Having a small network of my MIS peers was great because there are times were I needed advice (homework help, reviewing for tests, class announcements) throughout the semester and vice versa. Along with meeting the MIS students, I also got to know the professors and company recruiters. This was great because some times it is intimidating talking to people with so much more experience. However by mingling with the professionals, I found myself being more at ease talking to them and being able to approach them later on after the retreat.
Oh, did I mention the Rope Challenge? THAT DAY WAS AWESOME! The second day of the retreat, we got to do some rope courses with the other MIS students. Besides being tons of fun, the rope courses let the students solve problems and communicate with one another. There was one challenge that I had to completely trust my partners because if not I would fall down from several feet above, and let me tell you, it would not have felt good! I would say that day was a lot of fun and I am hoping the new students have just as great of time as I did.
I am looking forward to meeting new MIS students and forming a mentorship/friendship with them!
